Assistant General Counsel

Our client is a global biopharmaceutical company. They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Assistant General Counsel.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensures that client operations are in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Ensures thorough and comprehensive understanding of global business activities and operations.
  • Serves as the Global Legal Representative on cross-functional leadership team(s).
  • Provides timely and practical legal advice to Global Business Unit leaders.
  • Identifies and delegates appropriate matters to brand attorneys, and oversees the timely completion of such matters.
  • Collaborates with domestic and global legal colleagues to ensure product information is known and legal issues are addressed.
  • Ensures consistent legal advice across the franchise.
  • Collaborates with brand attorneys in order to identify and analyze legal risks.
  • Proposes appropriate actions to secure compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensures that interactions with health care professionals and patients comply with applicable legal requirements and company policies.
  • Interacts with and advises senior business leaders concerning legal issues.
  • Supports compliant strategy execution.
  • Drafts, negotiates, reviews and interprets agreements associated with the business, including agreements with health care professionals, vendors, licensors, consultants and speakers, and advertising, sponsorship, and other agreements supporting the business.
  • Reviews, analyzes and advises on promotional and medical materials.
  • Advises on brand and Global Business Unit strategic planning and business operation plans.
  • Advises on FDA regulatory submissions, label negotiations, publication support and medical affairs activities.
  • Reviews and advises on media relations materials including press releases, standby statements, Q&A documents, web sites and other company communications.
  • Advises Patient Advocacy in order to ensure interactions with patients and patient organizations comply with applicable legal requirements and company policies.
  • Ensures that clients are kept fully informed of all relevant legal developments in their areas of business.
  • Advises and collaborates with colleagues on policy development, training, and other relevant activities.
  • Acts as Legal Department representative on cross-functional teams, as assigned.
  • Coordinates with and supports other members of the Legal Group, including coordination of global legal support relating to the business unit.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Must have excellent academic credentials, including a J.D. from a highly respected, accredited law school.
  • Requires a minimum of 7 years of post-J.D. experience.
  • Experience both in a law firm and in-house, in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industry, highly preferred.
  • Requires occasional travel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must have sound judgement and commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Requires a high level of professionalism.
