Head of External Innovation

Our client is a leading pharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Head of External Innovation

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Secures and makes use of the Life Science Boston Network as a resource for the Company.
  • Expands the current and future innovative medicine search and development activities in the Boston area and beyond.
  • Leads and develops the activities of the Company’s innovations hub, Boston, and establishes it as a key component of the Company’s approach to external innovation, partnership and licensing activities.
  • Supports search and development activities for the Company line with current strategy (e.g. in niche diseases, new pain, technologies).
  • Provides a gateway for the Company’s colleagues to work and collaborate with the Boston/Cambridge innovation ecosystem.
  • Provides at least 2 clinically ready assets per year for the Company’s R&D pipeline.
  • Maintains existing and develops new external scientific relationships in Boston and beyond, to identify and assess new opportunities (NCEs, NTEs, technologies) with commercial potential.
  • Provides high quality input to the assessment of potential opportunities, by supporting the assessment and due diligence teams.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Must have a MD or PhD degree in biological sciences.
  • Must have 10-12 years of experience in the (bio) pharma industry.
  • Requires a wide functional knowledge of diverse therapeutic areas in either the research, clinical or development setting.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge in the areas of drug discovery and development.
  • Operational experience in building up early stage biotech companies and/or franchise in pharma/biotech a must.
  • Must have strong commercial experience and a basic understanding of business analysis.
  • Must be a team player, strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement emerging strategies.
  • Experience in working with European companies and across organizational and cultural boundaries is a plus.
  • Must be a creative problem solver, self-motivated and strong in driving deals and projects to a successful conclusion and quality outcome.
