Global Head Supply Chain

Our client is a global pharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Global Head of Supply Chain

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Leads process and acts as supply manager for the unit.
  • Directs, manages and implements activities related to forecasting, production planning, purchasing.
  • Leads the development and implementation of global logistics systems for this unique and specialized product.  This includes playing a leadership role in ensuring chain of identity (COI) is maintained using the customized clinical Cell Chain system and participating as a key contributor in the development of the commercial cell chain system.
  • Develops and implements best-in-class warehouse and inventory systems.
  • Develops, implements, audits and maintains policies and procedures to ensure materials are available to support manufacturing schedules in a cGMP environment.
  • Reviews plans to ensure that they support manufacturing capacities and scheduling requirements, interfacing with appropriate site support functions.
  • Directs purchase of materials to support production plans and supplies related to manufacturing activities.
  • Ensures the ERP system is properly updated and maintained.
  • Ensures that production areas and equipment are prepared for scheduled manufacturing and packaging activities.
  • Evaluates and refines the supply chain strategy and develop the plan to achieve agreed strategy factoring both near term and long term business considerations.
  • Evaluates and refines the organizational structure and resources needed to be successful.
  • Develops hires and trains staff so that Supply Chain Management becomes a core competency.
  • Establishes measures and metrics so that review and decision-making is data and financially driven.
  • Works interdepartmentally to build relationships and communications throughout the company and partner organizations.
  • Evaluates work in progress and makes real-time decisions concerning actions to be taken in response to unexpected manufacturing events.
  • Ensures departmental scheduling, production control, methods and procedures, cost accounting, maintenance and other related operations are managed effectively and efficiently.
  • Supports strategic planning and capital acquisitions for responsible operations.
  • Ensures all actions are conducted in accordance with FDA, MHRA, and EMEA cGMP’s, and regulations from other Government agencies such as OSHA, EPA, DEA, etc. as appropriate. Follows company policies and procedures with a heightened sense of compliance risk management; Supports all inspections conducted by government agencies.
  • Recruits, manages, and oversees the training and development of the Production, Planning, Purchasing and Materials Management team.
  • Identifies and implements productivity improvements. Targets are identified through annual goal setting process.
  • Prepares and adheres to budgets.
  • Directs continuing review and improvement of processes and equipment and leads strategy in determining solutions to complex supply issues.
  • Supports Quality Operations in conducting investigations into supply anomalies and laboratory results that do not meet expected results.
  • Writes Standard Operating Procedures and other work instructions that may be required to operate the responsible areas.
  • Responsible for import/export declarations as well as labelling, packaging compliance.  May include the leadership of packaging engineering function.
We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related discipline; an MBA degree is preferred. 
  • APICS CSSP or CPIM certification is preferred. 
  • Must have a career progression with pharmaceutical or consumer health companies where supply management is a well-developed, strategically significant management function. 
  • Requires proven oversight responsibility and direct experience in strategic materials procurement, production planning and logistics with a minimum of 10 years. 
  • Must have domestic and international supply chain management experience.
