Associate Director, Protein Analytics, Process Sciences

Our client is a global, research-based biopharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Associate Director, Protein Analytics, Process Sciences.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Manages the protein analytics group within Process Sciences at the company’s site and supports projects for preclinical, clinical, and commercial products.
  • Manages a group of 20+ scientists with BS, MS, and PhD degrees and is responsible for characterization and analytical method development for therapeutic proteins.
  • Responsible for ELISA assay development,  analytical support for late-stage R&D Biologics discovery projects (preclinical candidate screening funnel),  development of analytical methods for transfer to the Quality Control, analysis of material for animal testing (Certificate of Testing), in-use stability assessment, support for process development activities, extended characterization of drug substance, comparability assessments and  analytical support for process characterization and validation.
  • Develops, communicates, and implements vision and strategy for group, identifies and drives technical innovations that will contribute to future business developments and improvements.
  • Works with late discovery R&D, drug product development, global clinical teams, and quality/regulatory groups to develop and align strategy to develop best in class analytical characterization capabilities to advance the company’s pipeline.
  • Provides analysis and advice on major programs to senior management.
  • Mentors and enhances staff performance and creates a scientific climate of excellence to achieve business goals.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, related scientific discipline with 15+ years of relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • 10+ years in managing a technical group is required.
  • Strong scientific background in protein analysis with hands-on laboratory experience in the biochemical or biophysical characterization of proteins is required.
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals and experience leading technical teams, drafting technical reports and supporting regulatory filings are required.
  • Experience in HPLC, ELISA, mass spectrometry and / or biophysical methods such as CD, DSC and AUC are also required.
  • Experience developing and qualifying analytical methods, experience with monoclonal antibodies and other protein characterization techniques are required.
  • Outstanding record of accomplishment in areas of protein characterization.
  • Demonstrated success in driving strategic projects in protein analytics.
  • Demonstrated success in coordinating and executing important projects to further division/corporate goals.
  • Ability to manage scientists through urgent situations.
  • Ability to optimize resource utilization and group performance.
  • Ability to drive innovation in collaboration with discovery R&D, drug product development, and quality groups.
  • Experience and demonstrated insight into the regulatory process required for drug development.
  • Ability to successfully manage change initiatives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and changing environment is required.
  • Must have a results-oriented work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
