Associate Director, Scientific Communications

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Associate Director, Scientific Communications.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Leads a cross-functional publication team and developing publication plan/s (GMA, OGD, OTM, Stats, Legal/Regulatory, Regional product leads).
  • Drives the implementation of products publication plans.
  • Develops a comprehensive communication strategy and plan in alignment with medical, commercial and regional teams.
  • Drives implementation and dissemination of global Scientific Communication Plan.
  • Drives execution of global medical education activities (live and enduring).
  • Collaborates across GMA for development of internal medical education content and training materials.
  • Accountable for congress scientific communications.
  • Develops internal global communication and education for the company’s products.
  • Presents to upper management, CPOs and Regions.
  • Includes interpretation in collaboration with GBMD & brand team of key competitor data.
  • Establishes strong working relationships and actively collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders (GBMD’s, Med Info, GPTs, ECTs, ICTs, GPS, OGD, OTM, bio stats, legal/regulatory, US Sci Comm team, medical experts, speakers, consultants, and professional societies).
  • Responsible for alignment of global medical education needs with regional /country needs.
  • Manages all aspects of publication and medical education agencies in support of scientific communications. Identifies and screens appropriate vendors, solicit, evaluate and approve proposals.
  • Ensures compliance with all legal regulatory and the company’s requirements for scientific communications (publications and medical education materials) such as ICMJE, GPP, CME, Pharma codes, NVS policies (NP4) relevant SOPs and guidance’s.
  • Manages all financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including vendor negotiations. Develops yearly budget for assigned products and manages monthly spend within allocated budget.
  • Contributes to medical education or publication excellence projects across Scientific Communications Department obtaining input from other line functions.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Advanced scientific degree required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience (with 2 years in Pharma/Biotech Industry) in publication planning and medical education activities with a proficient level of understanding of pharmaceutical business, including drug development process, and legal/compliance global environment.
  • 2 years of oncology related experience is preferred.
  • Must have experience in the development of communication strategies & key scientific message platforms. Ability to provide strategic insight into scientific expert development activities, publication planning plus developing medical education materials and programs that support product launches in oncology.
  • Experience in planning and executing live educational events and enduring materials and experience in driving the development of scientific messaging and execution of publications preferred.
  • Expert project management and budget management experience.
