Medical Science Liaison

Our client is a growing healthcare company. They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Medical Science Liaison.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include: 

  • Provides scientific/Medical data support for marketed and developmental projects in the assigned therapeutic areas and assigned geographic territories to the appropriate corresponding Health Care Providers (HCP).
  • Conducts oneself in a non-promotional manner, responds appropriately to unsolicited inquires, facilitates research oriented requests (both company sponsored and investigator initiated requests) and acts as a scientific resource for HCP.
  • Executes individual strategic direction and goals, as directed by the line managers based on a strategic plan supported by Medical Affairs and aligned with the company’s goals.
  • Partners with manager to develop and execute additional individual goals specific to one’s MSL territory incorporating creative and innovative approaches to meet the educational, scientific and research needs unique to the region/territory.
  • Acts in accordance with applicable values, and compliance, legal and regulatory requirements and code of conduct.
  • Builds, maintains and manages effective professional peer-peer relationships with External Experts (EE, or Key Opinion Leaders-KOL).
  • Proactively ensures collaboration and alignment with cross-functional team such as clinical development and marketing departments to optimize the medical component during strategic and tactical planning and execution.
  • Assists the Clinical Development department with company sponsored clinical trials; such as clinical trial site identification, site initiation, site protocol education, as well as other requests.
  • Responds in a timely manner with accurate and approved information to unsolicited ad hoc field based requests (including MIRs-Medical Information Requests; and IRB-Institutional Review Board requests).
  • Acts as the liaison for investigator-initiated studies (IIS) in the MSL territory of responsibility; assist in the facilitation of the IIS to the internal committee and to act as the point of contact for the researcher, as directed by the IIS committee.
  • Supports internal training needs regarding relevant scientific/medical data, disease-state education, field related experience, EE/HCP development, therapeutic options and product training.
  • Assists in evaluation of available scientific literature in relation to product development, potential clinical studies and new product concepts. Prepares strategic platforms based on current literature and level of evidence.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers scientific presentations to individuals and groups of strategic importance to the Business Unit / company as requested. Coordinate and facilitate educational programs aligned with business requests including the coordination and medically relevant content development of non-CME programs relevant to assigned products.
  • Attends assigned medical and scientific meetings (congresses) and symposia to: maintains awareness of current issues and new data pertaining to assigned products; communicates scientific information; and provides relevance to current and potential development activities.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers scientific presentations to individuals and groups of strategic importance to the BU / company as requested using approved materials.
  • Performs regular field activity input into the company’s software, by deadlines, provides monthly report on key scientific support activities and completes project tasks in a timely manner as assigned.
  • Populates and maintains an opinion leader database.
  • Provides monthly report on scientific support activities in the region including but not limited to field activity input into the company’s software, key scientific support activities, maintenance of opinion leader database, project tasks and budget expenditures as directed.
  • Ensures that all activities and interactions are carried out with the highest ethical and professional standards and that all work is accomplished with quality and in accordance with the company’s values. Performs additional duties as requested by internal management.

 We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred (Pharm.D, M.D., D.O. , or Ph.D), with strong medical/clinical background.
  • At least three years of experience in the biopharmaceutical and/or device field. Medical Science Liaison experience preferred.
  • If new to the pharmaceutical industry, a minimum of five years of clinical experience is preferred.
  • Experience with formal presentation and interaction with global/regional level experts is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the area of external expert engagement and interaction, as well as working with academic centers of excellence.
  • Demonstrated credibility within the medical community.
  • Strong skills in relationship building and networking.
  • Strong Business Acumen.
  • Ability to maintain and enhance core competencies through regular reading, studying, and comprehension of scientific literature.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel required.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and thrive in an ever-changing environment as a member of a virtual team.
