Compliance Director - Policy, Training & Communications

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Compliance Director - Policy, Training & Communications.

The Compliance Director - Policy, Training & Communications provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of all supporting policies relating to the conduct of the company’s US Business operations in conformance with applicable compliance standards and of all elements of the training and communications plan consistent with the strategic direction of the US Compliance Department.  The incumbent will work closely with the Legal Department and Government Affairs Department regarding the tracking of and response to new legislation or regulations affecting the Compliance Program.  This position will build and maintain relationships with leaders and training personnel across all relevant areas of the company to ensure appropriate training and communication of US policies.  The incumbent will ensure coordination of the US Compliance training and communications annual plan with that of the Global Compliance Department and all areas of the company with US based employees.  He/she will collaborate and consult with multiple internal cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration and embedding of Compliance programs into business curriculum.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Leads the continuous improvement of US business policies and standards and executes formulation and drafting of new or amended policies and standards sponsored by the US Compliance Officer.
  • Establishes and executes a program ensuring the periodic review and refresh of business policies by designated policy sponsors.
  • Provides input to the Global Compliance Department on global policy matters on behalf of the US Compliance Program.
  • Creates communications strategy for new or amended policies, and support execution of policy communication, training and implementation plans.
  • Ensures adequate documentation of policies and related communications is maintained to meet corporate standards of compliance record keeping.
  • Develops a robust, dynamic and effective training and communications strategy to meet the requirements of a comprehensive compliance program.  Ensures successful execution of the strategy with the support of the Compliance function and other business partners.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of the US Compliance annual communications plan.
  • Embeds elements of US Compliance training program into New Hire, New Manager and other functional area specific trainings.
  • Coordinates with Global Compliance Enablement to maintain appropriate tracking and reporting mechanisms for required certifications of training and education for all employees.
  • Supports driving and embedding a culture of ethics and integrity.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.  Advanced degree in Education, Communications or Ethics preferred.
  • 10+ years in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of relevant current and emerging US and international laws, regulations and guidelines applicable to the US pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in compliance or legal function preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of pharmaceutical compliance and ethics environment.
  • Excellent analytical, technical drafting and written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to articulate and implement understandable, layperson-friendly policies, guidance, and communications for ease of understanding, implementation and compliance.
  • Creative and innovative in training for maximum impact and optimal effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated process/project management skills.
  • Accomplished training, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and learning content management systems (LCMS).
  • Strong business acumen, sound and confident judgement, courage and unquestionable integrity.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to deliver and ensure execution of Compliance strategy.
  • Possesses a good blend of strategic and operational experience and the ability see "the big picture" and also dive into details.
  • Strong drive and results oriented individual with ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and quick to exercise sound professional judgement, clear decision making and knowing when to escalate to senior management for support, guidance, information.
  • Courage and conviction to manage difficult issues and ability to influence senior leaders, peers and others to work towards the best commercial solutions within acceptable and agreed risk parameters.
  • Highly agile and constantly provokes thought, challenges the status quo and takes on responsibility for simplifying existing methodologies, defining new ones and providing creative and entrepreneurial business solutions.
  • Able to present ideas articulately and can effectively influence, get buy-in and drive consensus at all levels.
