Compliance Director, Diabetes

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Compliance Director, Diabetes.

The Compliance Director, Diabetes is accountable for supporting and partnering with the Diabetes Business Unit to achieve its strategic objectives with integrity and high ethical standards.  The incumbent will promote compliance of the business unit with Global and US Policies, relevant laws and regulations.  This position is expected to support the maintenance and ongoing improvement of a robust Compliance program across the US business, including delivering effective training, proactively partnering the business and Compliance colleagues to identify and manage compliance risks and opportunities.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Provides policy and compliance risk management guidance to Diabetes Business Unit leadership and teams to help ensure strategies and activities are consistent with business policies.
  • Proactively identifies, assesses and manages Compliance risks including those associated with new marketing strategies and ensures effective business implementation of risk mitigation plans.
  • Adopts a sensible, practical and risk-based approach in embedding effective compliance controls in business activities and processes.
  • Develops and implements a Compliance risk-based monitoring plan for commercial activities in collaboration with Global Compliance Assurance, identify trends and work with business stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
  • Ensures that reports of suspected policy violations are addressed within the appropriate procedures of the Compliance Program.
  • Proactively provides inputs to corporate compliance programs and ensures effective timely execution.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.  JD, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry working in or supporting commercial function.
  • In-depth knowledge of the marketing, promotional, and selling processes and interactions with customer segments.
  • Strong working knowledge of the pharmaceutical compliance environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of corporate governance, health care regulations, laws and standards.
  • Prior experience in compliance, legal or regulatory functions at large pharmaceutical company preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, sound and confident judgement, courage and unquestionable integrity.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to deliver and ensure execution of Compliance strategy.
  • Possesses a good blend of strategic and operational experience and the ability see "the big picture" and also dive into details.
  • Strong drive and results oriented individual with ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and quick to exercise sound professional judgement, clear decision making and knowing when to escalate to senior management for support, guidance, information.
  • Courage and conviction to manage difficult issues and ability to influence senior leaders, peers and others to work towards the best commercial solutions within acceptable and agreed risk parameters.
  • Highly agile and constantly provokes thought, challenges the status quo and takes on responsibility for simplifying existing methodologies, defining new ones and providing creative and entrepreneurial business solutions.
  • Able to present ideas articulately and can effectively influence, get buy-in and drive consensus at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communications skills.
