Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Executive Director Medical Affairs Clinical Operations.

The Executive Director Medical Affairs Clinical Operations will lead thinking, develop tools and establish processes to ensure our client’s external alliances are a core element of achieving their business goals. The incumbent will manage a small team of direct reports, but his/her influence will be felt much more widely -- indirectly leading and engaging staff working across the oncology portfolio in all Science Units, including both early and late phase development.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Defines a clear strategy for alliances globally and maintains current alliances, and develops new ones. This will include developing a range of Key Performance Indicators to measure the impact of the alliance and external engagement activities on the portfolio, as well as creating and maintaining a map of relationships to provide a single, clear and shared understanding of the status of each alliance.
  • Builds and maintains networks and relationships with colleagues and internal functions to ensure coordination of effort.
  • Scans the external environment and remains abreast of any developments that may have implications for the Therapeutic Area.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree within a scientific or healthcare field, or significant and comparable experience (PhD or PharmD is preferred).
  • Significant experience in Oncology Clinical Development combined with extensive knowledge of the main influencers and thought leaders in the field.
  • A proven track record of coordinating multiple clinical studies and large-scale, international, complex contract negotiation and management.
  • A deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and how the global clinical development field interfaces with academic or other research partners.
  • Effective relationship building and stakeholder management skills across functions, geographical boundaries and cultures.
  • The ability to manage change, having displayed proven business acumen, plus the creativity and innovation to seek continuous improvement where it counts.
  • Advanced conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven line management and leadership expertise.
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Experience working internationally: working with major markets/resolution of international issues.
  • Business planning skills: has knowledge/experience of planning processes used in managing drug projects.
  • Risk and crisis management experience.
  • Experience of leading successful teams from more than one national culture.
