VP of Medical Interventional Radiology

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a VP of Medical Interventional Radiology.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensures all company products are meeting the regulatory requirements, that appropriate risk assessments are conducted relative to complaints and to ensure successful new product commercialization.
  • Provides medical and scientific guidance and consultation to division regulatory affairs staffs for the development and implementation of regulatory approval strategies.
  • Provides medical and scientific guidance and consultation to division quality staffs for the clinical assessment and resolution of product risks.
  • Develops clinical strategies including spearheading the design of clinical trials and working with Clinical Sciences to develop publication and presentation strategies.
  • Ensures the effective development and adoption of products to fulfill customer needs including working with franchise teams to define technology requirements, provide user input and feedback and optimize global physician education.
  • Monitors products for post market safety and provides expert advice on the design and content of promotional materials including the review and clearance of these materials.
  • Provides medical expertise as required and defined in Division and Corporate SOPs.
  • Acts as liaison with the scientific community relevant to the business, managing relationships with key industry advisors and thought leaders; organizes and leads expert panels.
  • Develops and fosters strong relationships with key opinion leaders through direct interactions with physician advisors and clinical leaders to clarify clinical strategy to help achieve market objectives.
  • Serves as the key liaison between the medical community and R&D teams to interpret and communicate clinical concerns and provide technical leadership to drive product improvements and next generation technologies.
  • Develops and maintains a network of customer contacts as well as helping to evaluate and interpret competitive technology in the marketplace.
  • Develops and manages global medical education programs, including working with the International Businesses to ensure global implementation.
  • Participates in the design and development of promotional materials.
  • Accountability for review and approval of requests for educational grants, scientific information and investigator-initiated research grants.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • MD degree required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in management of medical, scientific, and/or clinical affairs for medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
  • A thorough understanding of the FDA medical device regulations, as they pertain to risk management and advertising and promotion.
  • Experience as a respected senior clinical/scientific executive in the medical device industry with an excellent working relationship with the FDA preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise and success in the development of clinical/scientific strategies and strong understanding of research design, & research protocols.
  • Connection to the medical community with broad contacts in academic medical centers and major practice centers.
  • Experience with global strategies for medical evidence generation to support new and existing products through regulatory approval, health technology assessment and post-marketing support.
  • Sound business development experience, with a high level of comfort providing expert medical input, both conceptual and through hands-on product evaluations.
  • Working knowledge of US and International regulations governing the medical device industry.
  • Ability to mentor and support employees in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulatory requirements.
