Associate Director, Medical Affairs, Dermatology

Our client is a major global pharmaceutical and biotech company committed to improving health worldwide.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Associate Director, Medical Affairs, Dermatology.

The Associate Director, Medical Affairs, Dermatology position resides in the Dermatology Therapeutic Area Strategy Team.  The Dermatology TAS team includes Medical Affairs physicians, research scientists, and operations members.  The Associate Director will assist in the development and conduct of a variety of Medical Affairs initiatives to support the company’s current or emerging indications in the dermatology disease area.  These initiatives support biologic agents in late Phase III development.  This position will work closely with US and Global Medical Affairs team members and provide medical support for other functions within Medical Affairs and other groups outside of Medical Affairs.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Serves as the primary medical resource/point person for support of development and medical review of educational and/or promotional materials.
  • Trains/updates external health care providers who comprise the company’s physician speakers group.
  • Leads and participates in advisory boards in collaboration with the marketing group.
  • Supports training of MSLs and sales representatives on clinical/scientific information.
  • Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives within the Dermatology TAS.
  • Serves as a liaison between the company and external partners/collaborators (e.g., clinical investigators and opinion leaders) and develops credible relationships with them.
  • Responsible for review of new scientific proposals for phase 4 studies and investigator-initiated studies, participation in U.S. and global medical affairs activities to assess needs and resources for relevant data generation in the dermatology space, as well as participation in safety team meetings and activities, and contribution to responses on ad-hoc safety requests.
  • May be involved in the design, execution and support of registries, post marketing commitments, and Phase IIIb/IV trials within the areas of the company’s current or emerging indications.  Responsibilities may include medical monitoring/reporting of such registries/studies.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • An MD/DO is required.  Advanced specialty training or experience (board certified or board eligible) preferably in dermatology.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience in medical affairs or in the conduct of clinical trials is a plus.  Experience in related fields such as pharmacovigilance or regulatory affairs will also be considered.
  • Three or more years of experience in academia or clinical practice within a relevant subspecialty area is strongly preferred.
  • Strong scientific writing capability, analytical thinking, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and public speaking skills are required for this high visibility position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix type environment and having interaction with cross-functional teams are highly desirable.
  • Up to 25% travel (domestic and international) is required for this position.
