Senior Director Pharmaceutical Development

Our client is a leading specialty pharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Senior Director Pharmaceutical Development.

The Senior Director Pharmaceutical Development is responsible for all activities related to product development of all commercially desired dosage forms.  This position develops and maintains a skilled research organization capable of meeting challenges posed by a diverse portfolio.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Plans, directs, and monitors tasks related to formulation and process development activities as well a manufacturing support.
  • Directs and mentors product development staff in areas such as safety, project planning, basic research, technology development and application, and analytical techniques.
  • Manages the laboratory facility with regards to materials, equipment, operating procedures and compliance to cGMP's and company policies.
  • Interfaces with other departments as needed to progress company initiatives.
  • Manages and facilitates information flow including literature, intellectual property, and relevant documentation.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in pharmaceutics, chemistry, chemical engineering or other related physical science strongly preferred.  A relevant MS degree with commensurate experience and track record of accomplishment will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with a PhD or 15 years of experience with an MS degree.
  • Must have at least seven 7 years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Fiscal experience controlling departmental budgets and accruals is highly preferred.
  • Strong technical and problem solving skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically.
  • Thorough understanding of chemical and physical properties of active ingredients and excipients as they relate to formulation, process and drug delivery.
  • Working and theoretical knowledge of pharmaceutical ingredients, manufacturing, processing and testing equipment, advanced technologies, and delivery systems.
  • Ability to develop formulations, processes, and pharmaceutical products.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and experimental planning.
  • Current understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Working understanding of budget development, forecasting, and expense management.
  • Reasonable understanding of intellectual property law as it relates to drug delivery systems, solid dosage forms, formulation and process technologies, and the ability to evaluate prior art.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Project management skills with the ability to direct and coordinate a group of scientists, each having multiple projects, in an effective, productive fashion.
  • Excellent management and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a team of highly motivated and productive scientists.
  • Ability to effectively interact with personnel in other departments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including both technical and non-technical information.
  • Highly organized and sufficient attention to detail with ability to track and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
