Head, Search and Evaluation, Oncology

Our client is a global, research-based biopharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Head, Search and Evaluation, Oncology.

The Company’s Search and Evaluation group supports the Company’s global Business Development team by identifying and interrogating strategic opportunities for academic collaborations, venture investments, in-licensing, co-promotion/co-marketing, and acquisitions. The group is responsible for coordinating search efforts throughout the company’s R&D community, and conducting thorough technical due diligence activities that ensure an in-depth understanding of investment opportunities and provide effective decision-making tools for the organization.  The S&E group is comprised of teams each dedicated to supporting a key therapeutic area of interest to the Company.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for driving the overall licensing objectives, strategies and tactics for growth of the Company’s Oncology business.
  • While directly reporting to the Vice President, Search and Evaluation, the individual will have a strong working relationship with the Vice Presidents of Oncology Discovery and Clinical Development.
  • Ensures internal and external communication of the external Oncology sourcing strategy, and represents the Company as a spokesperson in external partnering and scientific conferences.
  • Builds and leverages a network of connections in the academic and biotechnology world to raise awareness of the Company’s partnering objectives and capabilities.
  • Works constructively with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication, efficient decision-making, and completion of transactions in a timely manner.
  • Integrates input from various functional areas across the organization to create high quality, clear and concise due diligence reports and presentations with recommendations to the Executive Management team.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D./M.D. is required.
  • 12+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • 8+ years of experience in licensing or search and evaluation on the “buy-side”, with a demonstrated record of driving deals to execution.
  • Research, clinical development, or medical affairs experience in the field of oncology.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in direct and cross-functional roles.
  • A critical thinker with ability to get to the right level of granularity to balance speed of execution and facilitate optimal decision-making by executive management.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience interacting with executive-level management.
