Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for an Associate Director, DMPK.

As Head of the Oncology iMed DMPK team the individual will be responsible for leading the Design Team members, Biotransformation, ADME Expertise, PD Bioanalysis and Modelling and Simulation within the department.  This is a leadership and scientific role which includes involvement from target selection, candidate drug (CD) selection through to Proof of Concept in clinical testing.  The incumbent will sit on the Oncology iScience Leadership team and contribute to strategy and portfolio delivery.  He/she will ensure recruitment, training, development and deployment of resources to optimize project delivery and will work with colleagues to continuously improve the effectiveness of the capabilities. This person will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Global DMPK departments to ensure scientific and timely delivery of the in-vitro and in-vivo ADME contribution to project teams.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Accountable to provide scientific leadership and manage resources effectively, providing flexible, competent and responsive services in good quality and speed according to business needs; continuously enhance productivity and cost effectiveness.
  • Drives a team of DMPK scientists delivering the DMPK contribution to allocated projects in the iMed, working collaboratively with global DMPK colleagues.
  • Provides advice to chemistry on chemical design and through the Modelling and Simulation provides advice to bioscience for PK/PD.
  • Allocation of work and resources within the group to optimize delivery across an assigned portfolio of projects.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing to optimize delivery across an assigned portfolio of projects.
  • Selects, develops, coaches, mentors, retains, motivates, and inspires scientists; creates and maintains a work environment in which scientific challenge and innovation are maximized.
  • Ensures that the work of the department is performed with high quality in accordance with compliance processes.
  • Ensures that the members of the department have the right knowledge/education for the activities.
  • Establishes appropriate and measurable objectives for performance and provides on-going performance feedback to staff.
  • Support the iMed DMPK head to provide scientific leadership to the portfolio/project governance body of iMeds.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with line management of skilled professional staff.
  • Significant experience in DMPK.
  • Broad background and comprehensive understanding of discovery and development in DMPK.
  • Track record of delivering in discovery as well as development setting ideally including regulatory submission experience.
  • Wide experience of the drug discovery and development process and a working knowledge of international regulatory principles and guidelines preferred.
  • Extensive experience in operating across international boundaries, as well as cross-functionally preferred.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with emphasis of people management and development of others.
  • Strong managerial experience.
  • Oral and written communication advocacy skills.
  • Has passion for customers, thinks strategically, acts decisively, drives performance, works collaboratively, and develops people and organization.
