Senior Manager, Market Insights, Neurology

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Senior Manager, Market Insights, Neurology.

The Senior Manager, Market Insights, Neurology supports therapy area strategic and tactical decision making by developing and executing the overall therapy area Market Insights plan incorporating market research and secondary information into strategic insights.  Working closely with Marketing, Sales, Managed Markets and within Business Excellence, the individual participates actively in commercial planning efforts by providing unbiased, objective, in-depth information about current and future markets, product performance, customers, and competitors.  Additionally, he or she identifies critical business issues and opportunities for growth, collaborates with Brand teams and works to embed an external market point-of view into the strategic direction of the therapy area.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Develops overall Market Insights plan, manages primary and secondary market research projects and collects and manages secondary market data supporting the needs of inline therapeutic areas and managed markets.
  • Builds internal and external capabilities for information collection, including primary and secondary market research activities and market data for the Neurology Therapeutic Area organization.
  • Through execution of primary and secondary market research projects, synthesizes complex information, identifies opportunities, and develops conclusions and recommendations that can be used by management and marketing to make better business decisions, better understand customer segments and to identify opportunities and potential risks.
  • Collaborates closely within Business Excellence (and the Analytics & Insights team) to develop and implement methodologies and criteria for using primary and secondary market research, as well as competitive intelligence information, as inputs to the forecasts and market event models; Covers specific projects, as assigned, within current Neurology therapeutic area and managed care.
  • Provides clear, thorough and consistent analysis: market trends, product performance, market opportunities and potential risks.
  • Combining awareness of market research results, secondary data sources and relevant competitive intelligence, assesses the impact of market events on forecasting for the therapy area.
  • Builds and maintains key relationships with Global Business Intelligence.
  • Acts as US lead in support of Global Business Intelligence & Decision Support initiatives that cover the US market.
  • Ensures global initiatives meet US market needs as well as legal/compliance regulations.
  • Builds, manages and maintains relationships with key vendors of market research, secondary data, software, and consulting services.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the company’s Business Principles, corporate directives, government and industry regulations and guidelines.
  • Supports annual planning processes by providing inputs to the external analysis / situational analysis, therapeutic area landscape, and key performance indicator development.
  • Influences teams by building and defending cogent arguments, challenging assumptions and gaining consensus opinion; Influences business decisions by challenging conventional wisdom with considered, data based points of view.
  • Conducts competitive assessments and other cross functional projects on an ad hoc basis.
  • Coaches, manages and supervises project teams, as appropriate.
  • Plans and ensures the execution of market research projects (both primary and secondary): deciding on the appropriate methodology, developing the questionnaire/discussion guides with the appropriate internal resources, supervising their implementation, analysis of results, presenting the findings to key internal customers and coming up with actionable recommendations.
  • Provides clear, thorough and consistent analysis: market trends, product performance, market opportunities and potential risks.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • BA/BS required.
  • MBA (or other advanced degree) with an understanding of biopharmaceutical marketing strategy and tactics desired.
  • This position requires strong experience with the various methodologies of collecting and analyzing primary and secondary market research information.
  • Knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry and within the company’s in line disease areas is required.
  • The individual should have 6-8 years of market research experience within biotechnology / pharmaceutical and/or consumer products industries.
  • Experience including marketing or market analysis is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical analyses of quantitative research results required.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is required.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting research insights is required.
  • Strong PC skills (including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project).
  • Knowledge of statistical packages for purposes of analyzing data is desired.
  • Broad business understanding and ability to work cross functionally.
