Senior Director, Clinical Vendor Management

Our client is a leading pharmaceutical company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Senior Director, Clinical Vendor Management.

This leadership role will be responsible for building and managing a high-performing and best-in-class clinical vendor management group for our client.  This role will require effective collaboration and partnership with vendors, clinical, legal, and procurement functions within the company.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for building a best-in-class vendor management group from ground-up.
  • Leads a team of vendor managers who are responsible for managing portfolio level relationship with preferred Clinical vendors in line with company contractually agreed requirements.
  • Serves as a primary contact to manage the overall strategic relationship with preferred vendors and labs.  Strengthens engagement and relationship with key vendors at a portfolio level.
  • Builds and leads strategies to ensure ongoing improvements to vendor management capabilities within Clinical.
  • In collaboration with global procurement and clinical functions, understands and develops strategies for current and future vendor needs and helps translate these needs into specific requirements for vendors and internal functions.
  • Defines, monitors, and drives vendor’s accountability for portfolio level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).  Leads and enhances effectiveness of TA/Portfolio level vendor governance framework.  Manages governance interactions effectively to ensure alignment of vendor and business expectations.
  • Partners effectively with Clinical Operations to drive resolution to vendor delivery issues.
  • Accountable for managing vendor delivery, performance and ongoing improvements to ensure services delivered on time and to specified quality; delivered in line with contractual framework; and that vendors operate in line with regulatory and company standards.
  • Ensure cross-TA/enterprise vendor performance data is readily available during future vendor selection decisions.  Shares best practice and lessons learned in vendor management across functions and TAs where relevant.  Translates vendor performance into future contractual and pricing negotiations.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences.  MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Biotech/Pharma/CRO in clinical vendor and site contracting, contract management and vendor management area.
  • Proven experience building and managing strategic vendor relationship and high performing vendor management function.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical and pharmaceutical drug development process.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities, budget, resources and performance targets.
  • Proven leadership promoting motivation and empowerment of others in order to accomplish individual, team and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to drive 360 degree change-management efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate a compelling vision and sense of purpose for the function.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking with good problem and conflict resolution skills.
