Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Director Patient Safety Operations.

The Director Patient Safety Operations is accountable for the performance and results across a number of teams within the span of Patient Safety.  This position sets departmental objectives/plans to ensure delivery of business objectives.  The incumbent will lead the provision of high quality product safety data and regulatory compliance through the development and implementation of TA drug safety strategy aligned to global goals including performance indicators.  He/she will review and approve key drug safety documents and act as the senior drug safety expert for the TA.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Manages an entire area of Patient Safety in a TA, or acts as the senior expert in one or more areas of Patient Safety.
  • Develops, or uses expertise to support the development of, strategies and objectives for Patient Safety in area of responsibility, and ensures these are aligned to broader company goals and objectives.
  • Maintains a high degree of understanding and awareness of internal and external developments that could affect the Patient Safety sub-family and the Company Science, and shares this with team members as appropriate.
  • Builds networks with other teams and external stakeholders to learn about new developments, leverage opportunities and share best practices.
  • May manage a senior management team, setting their goals and objectives, providing appropriate development opportunities and carrying out effective succession planning.
  • May manage or support complex and cutting edge projects to improve processes within Patient Safety or develop and introduce new technologies and approaches at the national, regional or global level.
  • Ensures that own work and work of team is compliant with Good Clinical and Pharmacovigilance Practice, Safety Health and Environment (SHE) standards, and all other relevant internal and external regulations and standards.
  • Line management and team leadership accountabilities.
  • Recruitment, development and retention of talent.
  • Ensures full implementation of all Patient Safety and GMD strategic change programs.
  • Shares best practice across teams in Patient Safety TA and liaises with enabling Safety Science.
  • Shares best practice across teams in Patient Safety TA in areas of risk management planning and risk mitigation activities (planning and assessing effectiveness).
  • Leads strategic and change projects across Patient Safety TAs.
  • Involved in cross-functional strategic and change project.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Medical degree, Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in relevant scientific discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Patient Safety in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and developments in the Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Medical or other life science degree or appropriate qualification as Health Care Professional.
  • PV Professional (Expert).
  • Line management experience.
  • Experience in either writing Risk Management Plans and assessing risk mitigation activities or in translating preclinical safety experience.
