Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a VP Clinical Development & Medical Affairs Immunology/GI.

The VP Clinical Development & Medical Affairs Immunology/GI is accountable for the strategic leadership of the cross-functional Global Product Team to create, execute and deliver a successful global product strategy aligned to the global brand strategy through the brand’s life cycle.  This position has high level accountabilities that are critical to the delivery of our client’s business objectives and portfolio value targets.

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership of Global Product teams approximately 18 months before de-risked Proof of concept to develop and present the DFL investment case for governance endorsement to ensure smooth and efficient transition of products from development to medical affairs.
  • Cross functional leadership of the Global Product team through registration, approval, launch and life-cycle management.
  • Delivery of the product Target Product Profile and Target Product Claims.
  • Definition and content of product business cases that deliver regulatory approval (worldwide health authority needs) as well as reimbursement (Payer needs).
  • Continued new value generation including strategic focus upon Asia, Emerging Markets and must-win commercially prioritized markets.
  • Delivery of governance-approved business cases within tolerance on time, cost and quality, working with functional management as required to resolve issues.
  • Maximizes opportunities for the brand through shaping and driving coherent, ambitious and deliverable product strategy.
  • Works collaboratively with global Brand Leads to generate, evaluate and deliver robust commercial options and strategies for the Life Cycle Management programs and relevant business and commercial development opportunity assessments.
  • Leadership of cross functional teams through influence rather than control.
  • Delivery of product information to support internal and external business portfolio reporting (CEO briefings, annual results communications, etc.).
  • Partnering with Investor Relations to develop and actively manage the external messages for the analyst community for end of year results and all other material business interactions.
  • Effective and transparent risk, opportunity and issue management at strategic, tactical and operational levels.
  • Identifies opportunities for the product strategy and drives decisions by coalescing diverse internal and external stakeholders’ interests.  Simplifies the complex, anticipates obstacles and barriers and works around them by integrating robust scientific, competitive intelligence, KOL and payer insights.
  • Ensures appropriate Governance and Compliance and protects the company’s Rights, Data and Intellectual Property.
  • Development and execution of publication and PR strategy for the product.
  • Approves all external information on the product (including publications, regulatory documents, clinical trial registers etc.).
  • Builds and effectively leads high performing cross-functional teams.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • BSc (or equivalent) and either be medically qualified or hold a postgraduate qualification (or equivalent).  In addition, he/she must possess significant industry experience specifically in all aspects of the Drug Development, Commercialization and Launch process gained from the Pharmaceutical or Biotech industries (or related).
  • Specific and relevant expertise in Immunology, Auto-Immunity, and/or GI.
  • Considerable expertise in designing development strategies and leading Phase 3 programs coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights required to achieve a successful product approval and launch.
  • Experience working in cross-functional project teams with a proven track record of successful product development based on strong science, commercial insights, market research and competitive intelligence.
  • Must be a very strong business leader seen as credible with Key Opinion Leaders, Payers and scientific communities and a very strong talent magnet.
