Medical Director Translational Pediatric Neuromuscular

Our client is a major global healthcare company.  They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Medical Director Translational Pediatric Neuromuscular.

The Medical Director Translational Pediatric Neuromuscular develops and implements strategies for efficient, high-value management of assigned drug development projects in concert with appropriate line functions leading to clinical Proof of Concept (PoC).

Major tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Develops and implements efficient, high-value decision-strategies for the Pediatric Neuromuscular Translational Medicine component of drug development projects focusing specifically on the critical PoC phase.
  • Serves as the major initiator of the PoC strategy and the early Clinical Development Plan (CDP).
  • Ensures full implementation of studies during the PoC phase by providing medical and scientific leadership and expertise to all line functions on the project team.
  • Supervises the team in preparing, conducting, and analyzing 3-4 PoC clinical trials of increasing complexity.
  • Ensures appropriate communication of clinical team matters, including study results, to project teams and Disease Area Decision Boards (DADB).
  • Oversees publication and external presentation of PoC clinical study results.
  • Acts as the Senior Translational Medicine representative to Health Authorities (HA) in matters and meetings which focus on exploratory development.
  • Negotiates effectively with HA representatives on all aspects of Translational Medicine and obtain results favorable to the company.
  • Provides specific Pediatric Neuromuscular medical and scientific expertise to other Disease Areas or line functions (e.g., Clinical Development & Medical Affairs).
  • Provides direct or supervisory medical support for all pharmacokinetic studies.
  • Contributes senior-level expertise to Research in support of target selection, target validation, and preclinical development of compounds.
  • Reviews and evaluates cross-DA activities.
  • Provides clinical context and helps design optimal preclinical studies.
  • Evaluates clinical centers and foster communication with crucial collaborating investigators. Interact effectively with external key opinion leaders and serves as an internal KOL in both scientific and Pediatric Neuromuscular field.
  • Mentors colleagues on scientific, clinical, and drug development issues.
  • Design and implementation of early Clinical Development Plan enabling efficient and rational decision-making, high probability of fast drug registration, favorable drug label, and high competitiveness of compounds.
  • Contributes effectively to Pediatric Neuromuscular strategy, innovative target identification, and in-licensing efforts resulting in a high quality preclinical and clinical portfolio.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • M.D. or equivalent.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical based company, Clinical Research Organization (CRO), or academic medical center, or related clinical experience.
  • Significant experience within a clinical pharmacology related discipline with global project management experience.
  • Direct basic science experience in Pediatric Neuromuscular with a proven record of quality publications.
  • Strategic thinking: create major innovations, ability to network with and influence opinion leaders, clear and logical presentation of complex strategic issues.
  • Hands-on clinical experience in the Pediatric Neuromuscular domain.
  • Subspecialty clinical training and extensive clinical experience with relevant patient groups at an academic medical center.
  • Leadership experience combining scientific and medical subspecialty skills.
  • Must be fluent in English (oral and written).
